The following data is via Adam and Eve who polled thousands of Americans about their casual hookups and dating success.
In general, hookups are most common 18-24, which kind of makes sense because the average age of marriage is 29 for men and 27 for women.
Not sure how to explain the pre-marriage drop off after 24. Possibly could be the lull of after-college life (takeaway - stay in school as long as possible).

For those in college, the numbers for hookups in general are about the same, but the number of hookups during college is higher than one-night stands (maybe they read one of the books to attract someone).
Co-eds report that by their senior year:
72% have had at least one hookup
Men average nearly 10 hookups
Women average just over 7 hookups
